Worship Services

At First Presbyterian Church, Evansville, we offer two worship services, one contemporary and one traditional. Both services are available through our live-stream platform and also on our Facebook page. If you would like to worship with us in person, we ask that you practice good and safe public health. Disposable masks and hand sanitizer are available at both entrances.

8:30 a.m. – Wide Awake Worship

Wide Awake Worship is the first Sunday worship service at First Presbyterian Church and begins at 8:30 a.m.  An informal (you might even say “casual”) service, the gathering takes place in the Fellowship Hall.  Refreshments are available prior to the service and participants are invited to keep a beverage with them throughout the one-hour gathering.  A small band provides the musical leadership for the service. Children’s packets are provided during worship.

10:30 a.m. – Service for the Lord’s Day in the Sanctuary

The beauty and majesty of the historic sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church is the setting for the Service for the Lord’s Day, each Sunday at 10:30 a.m.  Celebrating God’s goodness and love in an uplifting and updated traditional style, this service both inspires and empowers worshipers to the new life offered in Jesus Christ. The music of the highly acclaimed Choir of First Presbyterian Church, handbell choirs, flute choir, guest artists, and the C. B. Fisk pipe organ provides the musical leadership.  The sermons are timely and thought-provoking and offer worshipers the full challenge of Christian discipleship.

After the Children’s Moment in worship, children from Pre-Kindergarten to Fifth Grades are dismissed to “Living the Word” for a Bible story, craft, and activities.

Childcare is available for newborns through age 4 during this service.

Refreshments are available after the service and participants are invited to join us for a beverage and conversation during fellowship hour.

Worship at First Presbyterian Church

“Christian worship joyfully ascribes all praise and honor, glory and power to the triune God. In worship the people of God acknowledge God present in the world and in their lives. As they respond to God’s claim and redemptive action in Jesus Christ, believers are transformed and renewed. In worship the faithful offer themselves to God and are equipped for God’s service in the world.”

Worship is the heartbeat of life at First Presbyterian Church. In worship, we gather together to encounter the living God. Through the Word proclaimed, we hear God’s call to new life – a life lived in relationship with God and neighbor. As we are reminded that we have been touched by God’s loving kindness, made known in so many ways, but most clearly expressed in the gift of Jesus Christ, we give thanks to God and celebrate God’s grace. Through different styles of music and liturgy, we join hearts and voices in proclaiming the greatness of God and find ourselves strengthened for the journey of faith and discipleship.
